I was thinking a lot about rice this week and started wondering what the difference between brown and white rice was. I don’t mean the color or the flavor, I mean the how and the why. So I did a little reading. I found that brown rice is actually white rice, before it becomes white rice. Got it? LOL. Rice is a grain. To get brown rice, processing removes the outer layer of grain called the husk. To get white rice, the milling process continues and the bran layer underneath the hull is removed. There’s a lot more details out there on the process and nutritional values, but I found the answer I was looking for today which was just how they were different.
